What we do

Sola Gratia Coffee has come about from a love of people and a love of coffee. Coffee is grown in mountainous, rural, typically under-resourced communities. Our founder has travelled extensively to many of these regions and was a bit giddy when he first saw the coffee bushes! A coffee lover for many years, he combined his passion to help people and his love for coffee to start a company benefitting the small farms that grow coffee and the communities in which they live.

All of Sola Gratia Coffee's beans come from a local relationship with a local partner. Many of these partners are subsistence farming or sharecropping. When we buy their coffee beans, we only buy the premium beans from them and at a better price point than they get from the mill. We bring them back to the U.S. and our expert roaster works his magic! You are getting one of the best, freshest, organic beans you could ever get roasted by one of the best roasters in the world! Our coffee is roasted in small batches, so you get an incredibly fresh bag of beans.

The best part of the story comes here! The profit from Sola Gratia Coffee is returned to the community which produced the coffee. It is returned through a team of community leaders who describe the areas and needs for greatest improvement. Sola Gratia then works with those leaders to find solutions for the problem in their own culture. This allows for good business partners who trust each other and are mutually dependent. This allows the community and farmers to discover how to lead and care for their community rather than making them dependent upon outside aid!  They are producing a product and receiving the benefit of their work!

These communities may want to strengthen their education, medical, or farming practices. Sola Gratia aims to assist, not define, these practices as they move toward healthy, sustainable communities.

Every bag of beans you purchase, goes to assist a local community with tangible impact. These farmers see a significant impact from your purchase and the community benefits directly! Kids in orphanages have blankets, schools have supplies, and farmers learn more effective techniques in producing their crops. When you sip, you serve!
